Review: Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is an incredible story that keeps you interested from the first page to the last. What is even more amazing is how the author was able to incorporate the vintage photographs throughout the book without sacrificing the story. In away you wonder if the pictures or the words came first.

The book centers around a young man named Jacob who grew up listening to his grandfather's tales of the peculiar children he lived with in the orphanage. However, after his grandfather's murder, Jacob begins to find that the tales may have been base on more fact than fiction. Now he must decide who to trust as he seeks to learn more about his grandfather's past.

I must say that based on how the book ended, I am not sure if I want a sequel or to just write my own ending. Great book and I would recommend it to any adult or teen that likes a little fantasy in their life.

Review: The Queen and I

The Queen and I
The Queen and I by Sue Townsend

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I wanted to listen to The Queen and I after hearing the narrator give a talk at a library conference. It sounded like a really interesting concept to have the Royal Family kicked out of Buckingham Palace and placed in public housing. It is really amusing how each member of the family takes to the changes in circumstances. The only downside of the book is that it is set in 1992. The Royal Family has changed much in the last 20 years so it would be interested to see an updated version of the book. Otherwise it was a great read and I would highly recommend the audiobook for those on the go.
